What is Sanatana Dharma?
सनातन means eternal (timeless/forever/everlasting) and धर्म signifies way of (dutiful) life. Hence, सनातन धर्म is actually not a religion, it is a way of dutiful life followed since infinite time and will continue to do so till infinity. which stands tall and right no matter which Yuga it is. Unlike other religions, Sanatana Dharma does not behave or defines any specific creed, rather it represents a code of conduct and a value system that has spiritual freedom as its core. It is not a person or God centric Dharma. Every being has his/her freedom to follow its own belief. (Including not believing in God).
Sanatana Dharma believes that a person’s life is actually the journey of the soul. The life is in circle with each new beginning happening until one achieves salvation from the physical cycle of birth & death.
The Hindu goes through a series of reincarnations that eventually lead to ‘moksha’, or salvation, freeing the body from the cycle of rebirths (after reaching spiritual perfection). Purity of mind and action is essential, as ‘karma’ or actions in life determine your reincarnation. ‘Dharma’ on the other hand controls the laws of the social, ethical and the spiritual.
